"The Bucketizer" Expense Buckets

Turn Accounting Data Into Management Information

There IS a simple trick to make sense of all the accounting detail on the typical P&L. Re-organize those individual line-item expenses into major "buckets" of expenses.

By grouping expenses into these "buckets", you immediately turn P&L data into management information.

Now, it becomes easy to:

•  monitor expenses;

•  make comparisons to prior years;

•  quickly spot which buckets of expenses are increasing.

And, take full advantage of playing "What If...?" with the Strata:G P&L and Cash Flow Calculators!

Easily Compare "What if...?" Options

When projecting, it is easier to group expenses into major categories, or "buckets"

  • Variable expenses, a percent of sales, are grouped together.
  • Fixed expenses, with essentially the same dollar amount each month, are sorted into other planning categories.

For each of these expense categories, you make just ONE ENTRY, one time, in the Strata-G Cash Flow Calculator.  (Want to tweak your expense projections? Easy. Just adjust ONE ENTRY.)

Expense Buckets Vary By Industry

All of the Strata:G Financial "What If...?" Resources are industry-specific. The particular line items that are clustered together into a bucket - especially the variable expenses - can vary between Restaurants and Service Businesses, Retail Operations, or Professional Firms.

You can find guidelines of what to include in each expense bucket in the About Expense "Buckets" link on each calculator.
